Bài luận 1: Nguyên nhân và hậu quả của vấn nạn giao thông tại các thành phố lớn

Traffic congestion is one of the most acute problems in big cities and it has made people’s lives more difficult. Thirty years ago, there were fewer autmobiles on the street and people did not have to suffer from traffic. Today, nevertheless, streets are full of cars, buses and trucks. This essay will analyze the most important causes of traffic congestion and will point out the effects of it.

Several factors have contributed to the issue of traffic in large cities. The most important factor is the high number of cars. Today, companies manufacture a large number of automobiles and it is pretty easy for people to have one. Furthermore, a lot of families own two or three cars which lead to the increase of traffic congestion. Another contributory factor is the lack of public transports. For example, there are very few subway systems in my hometown, Tehran, and bus system is inefficient and inconvenient. Therefore, people use their own cars even in rush hours. The last cause is road system. Most of the streets in my city are narrow and few cars can pass through them simultaneously.

The problem of traffic has several effects on people and city. The most significant effect is increased anger and frustration. Every day, people experience a delay in reaching their workplaces or universities. This leads to high tension and stress among them. Another feasible effect worth mentioning here is the environmental effect. The quality of air declines because of the exhaust fumes generated by cars which may result in severe health problems such as asthma, bronchitis and heart attacks. The waste of time on average is enormous and this is another major drawback the bad traffic is causing.

In conclusion, traffic is mainly created by overpopulation and people’s reliance on their own cars. If governments provide more facilities and encourage their citizens to use public transport, I am sure that the level of traffic will decline in the near future.

Bài luận 2: Có nên mở rộng đường để giải quyết vấn đề tắc đường hay không?

Inhabitants of planet earth are faced with numerous challenges in the form of overpopulation, traffic congestions, pollution and so on. While metropolitan and other developing cities offer basic necessities and luxurious lifestyle, they do come up with their own challenges and one of them is traffic congestion. Though widening of roads to réolve this issue is laudable, I do not fully agree and believe that there are other alternatives available. This essay will analyze the problem associated with extending the width of the roads and will suggest some possible alternatives.

Proponents of this view point assert that widening streets and expressways will enable them to increase the number of lanes which in turn can cater more traffic. This strategy will surely help to reduce congestion, but usually, streets and highways are running at their maximum width and widening them either by narrowing the islands or reducing the pedestrian tracks would not be conceivable. In many cases, this strategy does not always work as a lot of buildings and shops are already located at the edge of the road. For example, Zaib-Un-Nisa street in sadder, Karachi is already at its maximum width and the only solution to this problem is to allow the traffic to flow in one direction on the entire street.

However, there are many alternate approaches which can be implemented to overcome this issue. We can easily cut down on traffic blackening on streets by charging the motorists more during rush hours, car parking should not be allowed on busy roads and overhead pedestrian bridges should be constructed to regulate the traffic flow. We can also use the lane-divider technique like the one used in Malaysia, where one lane of the opposite track is included in the congested track to regulate the flow in busy hours. Moreover, office workers should be encouraged to use car pooling services like Singapore. Furthermore, people should be motivated to use mass transit system like the subways and the metros.

To recapitulate, the above-mentioned provides feasible alternate solutions to reduce traffic jams and have highlighted some factors that can limit the extension of road widths. From my perspective, widening of roads will not work always and we should look into using alternate approaches like the ones mentioned above.
